Up the Distance
Training continues with the move up to the Lake Clearwater bach delayed. I have been able continue training on my on my usual route. On Saturday the last day of May and the first day of Kings Birthday weekend it was a cool day with not too much wind and my body was feeling pretty good. The roads were very quiet as well, a perfect day for training. I keep up a good steady pace and took my training time to almost two hours and I completed just over 28 km. I was happy with the average speed of 14km/hr which matched the pace of shorter training sessions.
I have attached a screen shot of this training session from the Samsung Health app that I record my training sessions, the data for this training is collected by my smart watch. The map shows contour lines of the elevation of my training route. This image clearly shows the climb when I head up Mitcham Road. This latest session actually registered an elevation gain of 52m. The next step up in distance will take me up Winchmore School Rd which is a quiet rural road 6.3km long. There and back on this road will take my training distance to over 40km.
For those of you who don't know Mid Canterbury the Winchmore area was known for Winchmore Research Station which pioneered the use of irrigation in New Zealand. The research station has now gone along with the school and the church. The Winchmore Hall does remain and is a focal point of the area and also a location we have enjoyed a number of quiz nights. Speaking which please get together with your friends, family, work colleagues to form your team for my fundraiser quiz night on Friday 15th August at the Hampstead All Sports Club rooms.
