Training Blasts Through Shortest Day

Training blasted past the shortest day last week and I am now looking forward to those longer and warmer days. I have put together a seven minute video that condenses down one of my 20km training sessions to celebrate this milestone. The speed up action makes some of the passages through intersections look rather sketchy. Rest assured I was wearing my high viz and had my bike lights flashing. An interesting part of the video is after I turn around and head for home you can see my shadow with my arms pumping and my chopper flag waving with its light on top. What the video doesn't show is the variable nature of the roads. Coarseness of the chip seal, unevenness of the road surface, variation in camber, potholes to avoid and the odd crazy driver. All these things makes training challenging.

Some more marginal weather had me training indoors again. I am still not wanting to over training. Generally when I push the distances out I try to go easy on the pace. I have been doing some interval training on the rowing machine which should be good for my strength. Sessions completed over the last seven days are listed below;

  • Pushrim training; 31.9 km, 2 hours 18 min, average speed 13.7km/hr
  • Indoor Row; 43 minutes and approx. 8km
  • Indoor Row; 1 hour 8 minutes 13.5km
  • Pushrim training; 20km, 1 hour 22 min, average speed 14.5km/hr
  • Indoor Row; 36 min 7km
  • Pushrim training; 23km, 1 hour 32min, average speed 13.4
  • Indoor Row; 1 hour 2 minutes 12.5km
