Grandchildren and Grand Old Rowers

We are now back from a trip up to the Waikato and Bay of Plenty to visit Yvonne's grandchild, especially her latest addition Quinn and her first time Mum Rocky. This was suppose to be an opportunity to enjoy the warmth up north and maybe get to the beach. Unfortunately ex. cyclone Tam chose to run past NZ and we had wind, super rough seas and driving rain.

SI Masters Rowing - Lake Kaniere
I came back from the north a bit earlier than Eve and attended the South Island Masters Rowing regatta at Lake Kaniere. I only took part in a couple of races, a 1000 metre race with some novices and a 500 metre recreational race include a ninety two year old. Lake Kaniere was an absolutely amazing place to host a rowing regatta, surrounded by native bush and mountains along with glass like water for most of the regatta.

Back training with snowy backdrop
This break in my training was effectively about two weeks. On our return to Ashburton I started back on the rowing machine with another day off to be interviewed by the Press and a session at NZ Blood to give plasma. This was followed by another extreme weather system that brought 3 days of rain and 1.2 metres of snow to Mt Hutt!! I finally got out for a push yesterday, I only travelled 13.5km not wanting to over do things. From this push and my efforts on the rowing machine it is apparent that my fitness has gone backwards. Fingers crossed the weather improves and I can get my training back on track.
