Taking the Fern to New York

Coming back from Lake Clearwater leaving a sunny day we were greeted with a gloomy Ashburton. I decided to hit the rowing machine rather going for a push. I stretched out the session with 1 hour continuous followed by some lower intensity shorter periods. Monday saw the sun making an appearance and I headed out for a lower intensity 14km push. I also managed to get into and out of the racing chair without incident. Tuesday was back on the rowing machine with a higher intensity 40 minutes followed by a lower intensity 40 minutes and a warm down. These sessions leave me bathed in sweat but with regular training my recovery is reasonably quick.
When I get to New York marathon I want to let the people know that I am coming from Aotearoa New Zealand hence the silver ferns and NZ flags plastered over my racing chair. When I raced in 2015 I had a small black flag with a silver fern on the back of my chair, I am sure this would have caused drag. It did though get some recognition with the odd spectator yelling support for NZ. The New York marathon traverses five boroughs of the city and sites you see are varied, iconic and sometimes amazing. The five boroughs are Staten Island, Brooklyn, Queens, The Bronx, and Manhattan. Over the my next few posts I try to describe some of these places that I will traverse during the race.
