Unload Fail - Wednesday 22 January

We head out again late afternoon for a push on the usual route up to the Allenton shops and out of suburbia to Racecourse Rd and onto Hepburns Rd which runs straight for 2.6 km between Racecourse and Mitcham Rd. With settled summer weather there is usually a brisk north east breeze heading straight into your face as you travel up Hepburns Rd.

Today there was a stiff NE breeze blowing. With this route mainly having a slight climb and into the breeze it makes the return trip quite a lot easier which suits the struggling athlete. This certainly is the case with me early in my training. I complete the 13.8 km push in just under an hour which I happy with. Getting more confident with my transfers out of the racing chair I start transferring across to my wheelchair without Yvonne's help. Unfortunately as I try to slide across I slip off my chair and onto the ground with the racing chair ending up on top of me. I was pretty well cast so I had to yell out for Yvonne to rescue me. Luckily Yvonne was in ear shot and helped out. In my haste to make sure my racing chair didn't get scratched I didn't get Yvonne to take a photo of me. Oh well, it'll probably happen again!

Things can go wrong in racing wheelchairs.
